“The quality of the EIHL is improving every year, Team GB have shown that”, so says Belfast Giants Head of Hockey Operations, Steve Thornton when he spoke today with A View From The Bridge.
Chatting with Simon Kitchen, Steve reflected on the changes in the league and the dynamics of the new look Belfast Giants side entering the 2018/19 EIHL season.
“Last year was a successful year… We wanted to continue down the route of speed and skill, but also get a little younger to deal with the longer season. I like the way we are looking.”
With the EIHL fixtures being released this morning, Steve discussed how starting the season with the Challenge Cup gave the new guys a good means to build into the league season, and when questioned on the long road stretch through November he highlighted the pitfalls of playing at the SSE Arena.
“This is the reality of being a sports team playing out of one of the best arenas in the world.”
“As a player it’s not necessarily a bad thing,” he told Simon.
“It’s good to get these games, these road trips, out of the way”.
