‘Bout Ye: Matt Towe

Matt Towe has put to bed a summers worth of speculation as to his future in the game by signing a new contract with the Belfast Giants. The Coffee Baron of Bangor will return in teal for another season. However, his new job as a father will take centre stage in his life as Matt’s role with the Giants is reduced. He will act as injury cover while he concentrates on his new family, and his growing business empire, Cargo Coffee.

Towe returned to the Giants in 2016 having initially spent a season with the Giants in 2012-13. The intervening years were spent picking up EPL titles with the Guildford Flames as well as another cameo in the EIHL with Braehead.

A firm fan favourite, Towe’s hard-nosed, hard-working approach to the game gained him many fans in the stands at the SSE Arena. Last season he reinforced that following with Game Winning Goal in the Challenge Cup final that brought him his first major piece of EIHL silverware.

The 30 year old Yorkshireman became a father for the first time in June this year, so few can fault him for placing his priorities with his new family when it comes to a sport that will take him away from home every weekend.

Likewise his entrepreneurial endeavour with Cargo Coffee taking time to help build his life beyond the game.

Yet the option Adam Keefe has to draw on the talent of the seasoned EIHL forward is one that strengthens the options and overall depth chart for the eventualities of the season ahead.

Welcome Back, Matt.
