Belfast Giants welcomed Chris Higgins back to the SSE Arena as he arrived at training earlier this morning. Speaking to A View From The Bridge’s Simon Kitchen ahead of the weekend against the Sheffield Steelers, Higgins was quick to iterate how pleased he was to be part of the organisation again.
“I’m exited to get back out there, I’ve met some of the guys so far, I’m excited to get back on the ice. This team is doing well and hopefully I can come back and help out in anyway possible.”
Simon pressed Chris on the fact that Head Coach Adam Keefe had been chasing his signature on a Giants contract for almost 18 months, so what changed?
“We were talking for a little while and early on in the season I kept telling him no way, then it kept on creeping in, he kept on wearing me down. I was watching the Giants game son the webcast and started skating and missing it a little bit”
Higgins, a former Beanpot winner with Boston University told Simon that his Alma Mater’s participation in the most recent Friendship Four weekend had a part in bringing him back to Belfast.
“With BU coming out here a lot of people I know were ranting and raving about how great Belfast was and it gave me the itch to come back, and Keefer finally got it done”.
With Higgins only arriving in Belfast today, it is unlikely he will face the Steelers this weekend. However with there being no import limit in the Continental Cup, there is a strong possibility of him being in the line up for next weekend’s Continental Cup Finals at the SSE Arena.
